Stayed here for 2 nights this week for the first time. We did the waterfront getaway with the sea doo which unfortunately we did not get to enjoy fully as the weather did not cooperate but they said we could return next year and get the full experience. What a charming place! So much to see and do! The food was amazing so kudos to the chef and the dining staff friendly and efficient. We enjoyed the kayaks and the boat tour and the walking tour with the general manager who is so knowledgeable. All of the staff were lovely. Unfortunately because of COVID the games rooms were closed and the inside pool renovations were not complete. We would have liked to enjoy a bike ride and a tennis game but it rained on our last day. There is so much to do. Bed was comfy and very quiet room. Yes the place needs updating but I think it adds to the charm. Would love to see some of the outbuildings being renovated into say a microbrewing beer pub or a yoga/meditation area.
Stayed there last week for 3 nights and we were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the hotel. The carpet in our room was full of nasty old stains and didn't look like it has even been vacuumed. The bathtub hardly drained and the wall tiles around the tub didn't look very clean. The areas around the door handles were full of old smudges, clearly not wiped for a long time. The mattress on the pullout sofa was so old and uncomfortable, we had to put it on the floor to be able to sleep on it. Everything was very run down and in desperate need of repair. On the positive side, they did a fairly good job with the food and the staff was pleasant enough.
Enjoyed the variety of activities. Went canoeing and kayaking for 3 hours daily. Hike through the forest was well marked. Hike near the golf course was also very nice. The bingo was fun... Thanks to Ella. Grounds are well kept and the staff are attentive.
My husband and I went back to The Briars after 6 years. We enjoyed the food and staff and spa, but you can clearly tell the new owners don't care about the place. Looked completely run down and rooms were 2 out of 10. Musty smell, tv didn't work properly, old dirty carpeted rooms with a bed sheet that was so pilled we couldn't even sleep on it, furniture broken and so used. Bathrooms were something you would find in the cheapest motel with mold on ceiling. Walking around the grounds, it was confirmed the owners clearly don't care about their customers. The indoor dining area not in use while we were there, had old broken wicker chairs. The outdoor patio furniture looked so tacky and old and just tables and chairs thrown together. We opted to sit in the bar area which had more of the old broken chairs and old furniture thrown in a corner and the painted blue walls had white pain splattered near the ceiling in some areas. Completely mind boggling. We were just stunned our whole stay (which was very short) and couldn't believe it. We paid almost $500 for our one night stay including dinner and breakfast and we couldn't wait to get out of there. We will not be returning.
Beautiful courtyard to eat in, and great service. Prices are reasonable for what you get. The ginger beer drink with mint was delicious!
