Hart House is a beautiful building with 100 years of history since its construction in 1919 and has Ontario Heritage status. It has an mazing courtyard and impressive large rooms. Many special events such as meetings, weddings, and conferences are held here. Hart House also has a quaint restarant called the Gallery Grill, which is open to the public. The building houses a barber shop, radio stations, a gym, and a swimming pool. Guided tours are offered and available to the public.
Cool and well maintained building. Has a medieval feeling to it but can host small gatherings and meetings. Best of it all, it's on University of Toronto St George campus
Hart House delivers on a stellar Craft Beer Festival. Awesome selection, great food and good mix of options. Definitely enjoyed the visit .
The fitness centre has a beautiful swimming pool... And many lockers in the change room. There are two weight training areas, on two separate floors. One was relatively small and the other in an open area surrounded by the running track.Admission/use of the gym is free for UofT students, but towels are not included. Each towel is $1 for rental.
We held our wedding here in June 2019 and it was absolutely wonderful. Out coordinator Tara was responsive, organized and answered all of our 'dumb' questions. She was also very honest and upfront about costs and planning we we appreciated as (with most people) we were doing this for the first time. There are a couple of restrictive policies when holding a Hart House wedding, most pertain to the historical nature of the venue (no decorations that will take paint off the walls, no confetti, no shots) and really if you like the venue for what it is it shouldn't be a big deal. A note about pushing or upselling, there wasn't any, there were a couple of vendors showing off their thing at the tasting, but other than that Hart House has no incentive to upsell or try to get you to the "next package", they are very transparent with how much it will cost and let you decide. We were allowed to move all decorations in a few days early for storage, which definitely helped with logistics for day of. The day went off absolutely perfectly, Tara and staff were very helpful in helping us setup, keep our wedding helpers informed, and even keeping us on time regarding venue logistics. Everybody was where they needed to be without us having to lift a finger, it had all been planned out in advanced and was so well executed. There was high praise for the venue AND the food, very good for wedding food it doesn't taste mass produced at all! A couple of small items to nit pick: a safe is often made available to the wedding party to keep gifts in at some venues, we live close by so had friends run the gifts back to our condo. Also, air conditioning, remember that this place does not have it, just make sure you have folks dress accordingly if they're the type that get hot easily. Plain flowers and some small decor items really bring out the historical beauty of this venue, it really doesn't need much more than that! Thanks again for the best experience we could've asked for for our wedding!
Hart House is aptly named as its brilliant castle walls have played host to thousands of beautiful love stories.
Easily it is one of our favourite places we have had the privilege of performing at over the years (in no small part because of the full-sized grand pianos that are always in perfect tune.)
Its continued popularity is no secret with the enchanting architecture and warm atmosphere enhanced by their incredibly helpful and friendly sales team. Love is always in the air at Hart House *****
We have booked bands for clients at this very classy venue and love it!
I photographed a wedding at Hart House in 2003 and I loved the venue so much that I decided to have my own wedding there in 2005. They were excellent to work with as a photographer and of course, I got amazing treatment as a bride. I had a winter wedding and this venue was absolutely perfect with it's cozy fireplace, gothic architecture and high ceilings. We also had a lot of music at our wedding and the acoustics were fantastic. It probably helped that a piano tuner came in before the music began. Even though my wedding took place in February, we still managed to get photos outdoors!
The wedding I photographed in 2003 took place in the summer and they made use of the courtyard as well as The Great Hall.
In 2015, I photographed another wedding in the smaller music room there. That was also the perfect place for a ceremony and the grounds of Hart House are one of my favourite places to photograph people in all of Toronto.
Hart House holds a special place in my heart as I spent a lot of time there during my University days at U of T. When Sarah & Nick asked me to plan their wedding at Hart House, I was very excited about the opportunity. The venue was very special to them as well, as they had met their while attending U of T. From start to finish the staff at Hart House was welcoming and professional making it a pleasure to work with them. If you are looking for a unique and stunning historic space to host your wedding - and one that offers an outdoor garden space with magnificent architecture and charm (something which is hard to find in downtown Toronto) - you should definitely consider Hart House.
